Salobreña is situated dead centre on the Costa Tropical. White and sparkling, it embraces the great rock which looks out over the sea, between winding streets with an ancient Arab flavour and a sea breeze under the shining rays of sun which make everything white.
Salobreña is a precious enclave of culture and tourism. The historical centre is formed by the districts constructed next to or inside the ramparts which fortified the city in the Middle Ages. These made it one of the most impregnable locations on the coast of Al-Andalus.
Monuments at Salobreña
Amongst its most interesting monuments and enclaves, the Arab Castle, the Mudejar Church of the Rosary, the Tower of the Brocal, the Bóveda de la Plaza, the Paseo de la Flores, the Views of the Postigo and the AlbaycÃn stand out. This is not to forget the examples of Salobreña Archaeology, which summarize the lengthy history of the town in the form of scale models, ceramics, tools and exhibitions.
Have an enjoyable stroll and visit the Park of the Fountain, with its pond, gardens, tropical birds and play areas for children, or the Rock of Salobreña, a paleochristian necropolis, on the Paseo MarÃtimo and afterwards you can see a beautiful view of the Costa Tropical and of the fertile lowlands with Salobreña at its head.
Interesting is the only working Cane Sugar Factory in Europe, with a small museum and a model of the whole procedure of processing the cane.
Beaches of Salobreña
Salobreña has a coastline full of pleasant surprises and long beaches with all necessary facilities: The beaches of the Rock and of la Charca, where the white of the houses and the meditarranean blue are united, together with food stalls with a distinct taste of the sea. There is the beach of la Guardia, quiet and surrounded by sugar plantations. Or our natural coves: El Caletón or el Pargo, which get lost amongst the cliffs all along the coast on both sides of Salobreña.
Approaching Caleta, or Lobres, you can taste the renowned fried fish, the speciality of the area. Salobreña is a warm place, full of charms looking out over the sea, which must be enjoyed once, and also sports and lively nights with a gentle breeze.
Sports and outdoor pursuits
Enjoying sports and outdoor pursuits is as easy as it is interesting in Salobreña. Sports such as windsurfing, beach volleyball, underwater fishing, rod fishing, and boat trips make full use of thesea and the beach. Freeflight paragliding or hanggliding are possible, as are hiking along our hiking routes, mountain biking on our slopes, rock climbing into the Mouth of the Dragon and outward bound excursions in the area with experienced guides are an introduction to outdoor pursuits.
Nightlife at Salobreña
At nightfall another distinct world appears. Sitting on a terrace opposite the sea enjoying a quiet drink with the sounds of summer music, eating a typlically Meditarranean meal in one of the restaurants of the Paseo MarÃtimo, in the village or by the cliffs, or just going to one of the numerous tapas bars in the old town for a quick snack, lengthen an amiable night. Music bars, open air nightclubs and food stalls create a nocturnal atmosphere which turns the end of the day into pleasant, warm and friendly moments.
